About us
Letham Drama Group is a small, friendly,
amateur live theatre group.
Although
we take our productions seriously, the most important thing is for
everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves.
Letham Drama Group meets for rehearsals
on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 pm in the Village Hall.
So if you
want to get out of the house, meet people and make new friends, why not
pop along to the Village Hall one Thursday evening and meet us over a
cuppie?
If you would like to perform, we would
love to give you an audition, but we won't force you on stage!
There are
many other activities such as set-building, painting, costume-making,
lighting, sound, music, make-up, scene changes, curtains, prompting,
selling tickets, selling raffle tickets, making cakes, serving teas,
etc.
Whatever your skills, we can probably make use of them!
Letham Drama Group usually puts on two
productions a year; a panto in mid - late January and a play in mid -
late May.
Preparation for the panto begins in mid
August, after the children have gone back to school, with auditions for
children and adults over two or three Thursday evenings. We ask all
auditionees to perform a short reading and a short piece of singing,
for a panel of three or four committee members. You don't have to go on
stage in front of everyone, so don't be shy, come along and give it
your best shot! We then allocate leading parts and chorus parts. It's
important to take the audtion seriously as we can't always guarantee
that everyone will get a part.
Rehearsals then take place every
Thursday from 7.30 to 9.30 pm, through till the Christmas Holidays.
Some cast members may occasionally have to come in at 6.30 or 7.00, or
possibly stay till 10pm, but we always give plenty of advance notice if
this is the case.
In January the schedule intensifies,
especially in the final week before production when there are rehearsals
on Saturday
and Sunday afternoon and evening, Monday evening, possibly Tuesday
evening, with Dress Rehearsal Wednesday evening. The performances take
place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, plus a matinee on
Saturday afternoon.
We do ask people to commit to the full rehearsal schedule as far as
possible, and it's especially important to be able
to commit to the final week run-up to performance.
Preparation for the spring play usually
starts in February. This is usually a much smaller cast consisting
mainly of
adults. Rehearsals are every Thursday evening, again building up over
the final week before performance in the second half of May.
